This qualification reflects the role of early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in early childhood education and care services. In doing so they work to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard.
Job roles and titles may vary across the industry however possible job titles relevant to this qualification include:
- Family Day Care Manager
- Day Care Supervisor
- Child Care Manager
- Preschool Manager
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification however previous experience in the Child Care Industry would be very beneficial. Students must be 18 years or over and have completed a minimum of 10 years education. Students must also have access to a workplace where students can practice and develop their skills in a working environment.
Students will need to nominate, and have approved by Early Childhood Training and Education Pty Ltd, the students nominated Child Care facility where they intend to undertake the work placement. Child Care facilities must be a regulated education and care serviceandmeet the requirements of the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care and operate under the approved learning framework under the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care.
Students should have a reasonable level of fitness since working in this industry can be physically demanding. It is important for you to be at eye level with children which means a lot of bending, kneeling, sitting on the floor, stretching, cleaning and lifting.
It is a Training Package requirement of this course that you are physically capable of performing uninterrupted CPR for at least 2 minutes on a CPR adult and child manikin placed on the floor and on a CPR baby manikin placed on a firm surface.
Students must have a current Working with Children Check completed. The Working with Children Check assists in protecting children from sexual or physical harm by ensuring that people who work with, or care for, them are subject to a screening process. Passing a Check is a legal requirement for everyone in doing paid or voluntary child-related work who doesn’t qualify for an exemption. Consult the table on this Australian Government website for regulations in your state. Any costs will be shouldered by the student. For students planning to do their work placement, the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) recommends immunisation for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and influenza.
Students must participate in a minimum of 240 hours of unpaid work placement. This will allow you time to develop your hands-on skills and experience in child care and let you demonstrate the practical competencies required to complete the course. Students must attend an interview and complete a language, literacy and numeracy quiz prior to enrolment or the commencement of training. If addition support is required, then we can help you. Delivery and Assessment Arrangements
Total number of units required to receive the qualification is 28 comprising of 23 core and 5 elective units.

The CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is offered over 12 months – 24 months. You will receive an orientation from your trainer within one week of your enrolment.
Students are required to undertake 240 hours of student work placement during the course.
Delivery and Assessments Arrangements – Schedule
- 70 weeks of classroom-based training of 8 hours face-to-face each week.
- Approx. 10 hours per week of self-study, research and activities
- Students have 6 weeks break throughout the course duration.
- Student must complete a minimum of 240 hours of work placement as the part of the course in a regulated early childhood education and care setting. If you need more time or want to develop your practical skills and experience to increase your employment prospects, then you can do up to 480 hours in your placement.
Any changes to the course, agreed services or to this time requirement will be communicated to the students.
Expected Study Hours
This Diploma-level qualification has total of nearly 1500 hours of expected study hours. This equals approximately 18 hours of study per week for the full course (plus placement). This is a rough estimate of the course duration because your actual study time depends a lot on the pace you set for yourself and how familiar you are with the topics.
The majority of components for this course, delivery and assessment, will be delivered during the course however learners are required to continue their study off site to ensure they gain a comprehensive understanding of the topic within each unit of competency.

Students are required to undertake 240 hours of work placement during the course. Students will be required to find their own workplace and have it approved by the Early Childhood Training and Education Pty Ltd.
Child Care facilities must meet the requirements of the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care and operate under the approved learning framework under the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care.
Early Childhood Training and Education Pty Ltd will provide a training environment, which includes classrooms and computer facilities for training and assessment processes, as well as a range of additional resources.
Students will need to nominate and have approved by Early Childhood Training and Education Pty Ltd, the students nominated Child Care facility where they intend to undertake the work placement. Child Care facilities must be a regulated education and care serviceandmeet the requirements of the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care and operate under the approved learning framework under the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care.
Facilities must have access to children and babies, ranging from 0 to 6 yrs as specified in the Workplace Hours Logbook and within the qualification requirements as specified in the various units of competency.
Students, who are having trouble finding a nominated approved workplace, will be provided assistance by Early Childhood Training and Education Pty Ltd to locate a suitable facility. It is the student’s responsibility to maintain contact with the facility and maintain a high level of professionalism.
Early Childhood Training and Education Pty Ltd has access to a range or resources however students will need to provide their own access to a computer (including software programs), printers, internet facilities, and stationery resources.
Early Childhood Training and Education Pty Ltd uses training materials developed by Cengage Learning, which includes The Big Picture, 4th Edition, Birth to Big School 4th Edition, The Business of Child Care 4th Edition and the Frameworks for Learning and Development.
All students will receive a copy of these textbooks.
Early Childhood Training and Education Pty Ltd uses assessment materials developed by EduWorks. These will be printed and used for each student.
Assessment is competency based. Students are required to complete written and practical tasks, which reflect the requirements of the units of competency and current workplace practices. Assessment is continuous throughout the duration of the course.
Completed and submitted work will be assessed within ten (10) working days and feedback provided to the student as soon as possible thereafter. Where the student’s work is assessed to be not yet satisfactory he / she will be provided with additional advice, coaching or tutoring and the opportunity to re-submit the work with a view to having it assessed as satisfactory.
Feedback and information regarding the student’s competency, progress and study will be provided by the facilitator on a regular and ongoing basis. Ongoing support is also available to all learners and will be provided as soon as a need is identified.
Fees and Charges
Total Course Fee is $8000 comprising
- Enrolment Fee – AUD$150.00 (non-refundable)
- Student Resources – textbooks and printed notes – $500.00
- Tuition Fees – $7350.00
On enrolment: Applicants are required to pay $150 non-refundable enrolment fee + $850 resource and tuition fee = Total $1000.
During the course: 7 subsequent payments of $1000 will be made at 2 monthly intervals.

Students must be 18 years or over to undertake this course, demonstrate proficiency in LLN and have a minimum of 10 years education. Reasonable computer skills and access to email and internet are strongly recommended.
In consultation with prospective students and/or employers, this program may also be customised and tailored to meet individual client needs in order to maximise vocational education and training outcomes.
Prior and Existing Skills
It is important that you inform and advise the Early Childhood Training and Education Pty Ltd, prior to enrolment, about any existing skills and prior knowledge and education, to ensure they can provide you with the appropriate structure and support during the course.
To maximise the chance of students successfully completing their training, Early Childhood Training and Education Pty Ltd will identify any support individual students need prior to their enrolment and provide access to that support throughout their training. This will be done using both the Enrolment Form, and a Pre Enrolment Form, that students are required to fill in.
The aim of both documents is to any support that may be required. This could include:
- Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) support;
- Assistive Technology
- Additional Tutorials, and / or
- Other mechanisms, such as assistance in using technology for online delivery components.
Where this support attracts an additional cost to the student, Early Childhood Training and Education Pty Ltd will make this clear prior to accepting the student’s enrolment. If there are limitations to the support Early Childhood Training and Education Pty Ltd is able to provide, these limitations will be made clear in information provided to a potential student.
Where Early Childhood Training and Education Pty Ltd identifies required support, such as literacy or numeracy, English or other language barriers or physical capabilities, and it cannot provide such support directly, it will refer the student to a third party. The costs of such third party support will the responsibility of the individual.
Where the RTO is not capable of offering an environment suitable for the needs of a student with specific identified needs, it will inform them accordingly and may direct the student to a provider that can, and thus will not process their enrolment.
Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Credit transfer is available for completed past studies in areas related to the qualification that participants plan to enrol in. Participants are advised of the process of applying for credit transfer and assisted by the Trainer / Assessor to apply.
Candidates who believe they have already obtained current skills and knowledge that would otherwise be covered in the qualification / unit of competence for which they intend to attain, but have no formal prior learning, should apply for RPL at the time of enrolment. The candidate’s skills and knowledge will be assessed and validated, and where appropriate, units of competency acknowledged and face-to-face training reduced.
The recognition of prior learning procedure will be made known to you at the time of enrolment. If you can demonstrate competency through provision of sufficient, current, valid and authentic evidence of work experience, life skills, and study or via other evidence, then you may be granted RPL for that unit of competency.
Course Completion and Outcomes
Students obtaining a ‘competent’ result for all listed competencies will be issued, by Early Childhood Training and Education Pty Ltd, a nationally recognised award for the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. Early Childhood Training and Education Pty Ltd will issue the Certification within 30 days of the student being deemed competent in all units they are enrolled in. Students, who do not complete the required 28 units of competency to achieve the Diploma, will receive a Statement of Attainment for those units that they have successfully completed.
